The On-Road Phase (Behind the
Wheel) is designed to teach psychomotor and decision-making skills in traffic.
It is in this phase we bring together what has been taught in the classroom,
simulation, and range. It is also at this point in the student's program that
the parents or driving coaches are expected to assist with as much practice
(homework) as possible. Without this practice at home, the development of a
competent roadway user is incomplete. During the summer of 1996 The Lake Park Parent Instructional Manual was developed. An updated version of this manual has just recently been revised. This guidebook is a practical set of behind-the-wheel lesson plans for any parent (or coach) of a student learning the basics of driving. It is fully intended that this workbook be used to complement your new driver's formal instruction; it is not a substitute for it. A copy of this manual is available from any driver education staff member. Each parent (coach) will receive one at our Driver Education Parent Night.
