Communication Technology

 

GRADES 9-11

COURSE OVERVIEW: 1 Semester

Communication Technology emphasizes the basic; elements and concepts of drafting while providing many experiences for the application of drafting skills. It will also involve the electronic and graphic means of transmitting and receiving information. Students will explore how graphic communication works, how it is used, and how it impacts society. Topics covered will include computer aided drafting, layout and design, graphic arts, telecommun­ications and computer usage. Students should not enroll in either Graphics or Intro to (CAD Drafting while enrolled in Communication Technology.

UNIT I             Introduction to Communication Technology

UNIT II           Desktop Publishing

UNIT III          Computer Aided Drafting

UNIT IV          Photography

UNIT V           Screen Printing

UNIT VI          Video Production

 

COURSE OUTCOMES:

  1. Students will become familiar with computer network operation and terminology.
  2. Students will gain an understanding, or the purpose of communication in society
  3. Students will become familiar with Desktop Publishing, Computer Aided Drafting and other software applications.
  4. Acquaint students with the knowledge to produce a video tape news story.

 

MAJOR LEARNING EXPERIENCES TO ACHIEVE OUTCOMES:

  1. Students will produce various Desktop Publishing projects including a 12 mo. calendar, two page newsletter, advertising flyers memo pad and business cards
  2. Students will draw a series of single and multiview drawings. 
  3. Students will expose and develop a roll of black and white film.
  4. Students will design and print a T-shirt.
  5. Students will work in a group to cooperatively produce a video news show.

Various readings on Desktop Publishing, Computer Aided Drafting, Multiview Drawings, Film Processing and Video Program Production.
