GRADES 11-12

COURSE OVERVIEW: 1 Semester

Graphic Arts 1 provides students with an introduction to the processes and equipment used in the graphic arts area. Students will work in the areas of electronic image assembly, paste-up, scanning, digital images, typesetting, line photography, black and white photography, plate preparation, offset press setup and operation, screen printing, heat seal printing, and glass etching. Students will use resources in the graphics lab to design and complete projects.

STUDENT OUTCOMES:

  1. Acquaint students with graphic arts careers
  2. Familiarize students with the process of offset printing
  3. Familiarize students with screen printing
  4. Familiarize students with vinyl cutting and printing
  5. Provide opportunities for students to print using an offset press
  6. Provide opportunities for students to print using silk screens
  7. Acquaint students with various desktop publishing programs

MAJOR LEARNING EXPERIENCES TO ACHIEVE OUTCOMES:

  1. Set up and use an offset printing press.
  2. Screen print on shirts
  3. Design documents using a computer
  4. Print documents using desktop publishing programs, laser printers, color printers and dry toner printers
  5. Produce film negatives and positives in a darkroom
  6. Sandblast etch glass, metal, wood or plastic
  7. Design and produce vinyl signs, stickers and iron-ons
