GRADES 11-12

| COURSE
OVERVIEW:
|
| This program is designed to offer the
student a wide variety of cardiovascular and fitness activities in order to
enhance personal wellness. Students will be introduced to a cardio fitness
center. Other activities to be included will be fitness walking, aerobic
exercise routines, step aerobics, hand weights, slide aerobics, bar weights,
in-line skating, exercise bands, and nutritional studies. Personal
assessment through heart rate monitors and body composition analysis assist
students in establishing realistic fitness targets. |

LEARNING EXPERIENCES TO ACHIEVE OUTCOMES:

 | Assessing personal fitness through appropriate protocol
and set target goals based on assessment. |
 | Practice a variety of aerobic activities to develop
cardio-fitness and to find an activity of preference to maintain
cardio-fitness throughout the life cycle. |
 | Practice strength training exercises to develop
muscular strength and endurance in class as well as throughout the life
cycle. |
 | Determine the basics of nutrition needed to maintain
appropriate weight throughout the life cycle. |
 | Develop a personal fitness plan based on scientific
principles to maintain fitness in muscular strength, muscular endurance
flexibility, body fat percentage, and cardio-respiratory fitness. |
 | Identify personal habits that are detrimental to
obtaining the health related fitness standards. |
 | Develop a plan to assist in changing detrimental
personal habits that lead to disease. |
 | Dress daily in required physical education uniform. |
 | Enter personal data into personalized electronic
portfolio. |
 | Write personal fitness plan during designated semester. |
