Sophomore Unit Review Center

 

COURSE OVERVIEW:
The primary emphasis of Physical Education at the sophomore level is to provide a review, continuation, and maintenance of physical fitness concepts and healthy lifestyles.  Moreover, the appreciation of good health shall be promoted through fitness self-evaluation, exercising at a pace suited for the individual, and participation in lifetime racket sports.  These units of instruction will be designed to educate and encourage students to develop sound fitness habits now and into the future.

STUDENT OUTCOMES:

  1. Review fitness concepts (F.I.T., cardio-respiratory, muscular development, and flexibility). (20.A)
  2. Assess personal fitness and use to develop a personal plan. (20.A, 20.B.5a)
  3. Use psychomotor skills and apply knowledge to unit of instruction. (20.A)
  4. Use sportsmanship and cooperation while adjusting individual needs to work toward team goals. ( 21.B.2, 21.B.5)
  5. Identify major muscles and weight or aerobic exercises that build/maintain those muscles. (19.A.5, 20.A)
  6. Participate in and apply rules and safety relating to each unit of instruction. (19.C.5a, 19.A, 19.B, 21.A)
  7. Monitor heart rate with a variety of methods. (20.B.2a)
 

MAJOR LEARNING EXPERIENCES TO ACHIEVE OUTCOMES:

  1. Participate in class activities both individually and in groups.
  2. Practice and apply skill to perform proper technique in units of instruction.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of units of instruction on a written test.
  4. Dress in required Lake Park physical education uniform.
  5. Demonstrate respect for equipment, facilities, and classmates.
  6. Participate in fitness assessments.
  7. Develop and implement a weight-training program.
  8. Enter personal data into personalized electronic portfolio.
