SCENARIO:  Because of the demand for information on historical figures for T.V. Game Shows, Bill Gates asked you to develop a historically accurate CASE STUDY of ONE European monarch from the Age of Absolute Monarchy. 

 

PROJECT  GOALS:

1.                  Explore a monarch’s life

2.                  Exposure to Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and different technology functions (scanning, saving images, etc.)

3.                  Decipher information from different web sites and historical primary sources

 

REQUIREMENTS:

1.                  Research on one of the monarchs in the topic selection.

2.                  Develop a research paper/poster; create a web page; or present a PowerPoint display on your monarch which will include:

a.       Background:  Provide a background on your monarch (birth, parents, death, when they ruled, married, children, where they lived, palaces, etc.)

b.      Goals:  What were the goals of this monarch for his/her nation?  (Include both domestic and foreign policy)  How did they go about trying to achieve these goals?  Was this monarch successful in achieving his/her goals?  Why or why not?

c.       Groups of the Day:  Within his/her nation, what groups supported the monarch?  Why?  What groups opposed the monarch?  Why?

d.      Foreign Affairs:  Internationally, what other nations did this monarch ally with?  Why?  What nations were there conflicts with?  Why?

e.       Absolute Power:  How did this monarch go about centralizing power within his/her nation?

f.        Opinion:  In your opinion and by definition is this monarch an “absolute” monarch?  Why or why not?

 

3.                  Your project MUST:

a.       Be typed

b.      Include a bibliography

c.       Cite sources for direct quotes

d.      Include visuals that reflect the culture and lifestyles of the monarch and his/her nation.

e.       Provide a timeline of your ruler’s major personal and historical events in their lifespan.

f.        Contain accurate maps from that time period.

g.       Use a primary source (actual document)

h.       If you developed a web pate or PowerPoint presentation then you will need to save it on a disk, label the disk, and give to your instructor.
