NCAA ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY  REQUIREMENTS

     For your information please be aware that your freshman (9th grade class) this academic year 2004-05, must present 16 core courses to the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse upon graduation in order to qualify for aid, practice and competition in their first year of collegiate enrollment in 2008-09.

 

NEW RULE:

Increases the number of core courses from 14 to 16.  The additional core courses must come from the following areas: English, mathematics, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, non-doctrinal religion/philosophy, or computer science. 

BREAKDOWN:

4 years English                   

3 years mathematics (Algebra I or higher)

2 years natural/physical science (1 year of lab)

1 year additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science.

2 years of social science

4 years of additional courses (from any are above or foreign language, non-doctrinal religion/philosophy, computer science*)

* Note: Computer science has been eliminated as an acceptable core course area for students first entering college on or after August 1, 2005.  Students entering college on or after August 1, 2005, may not use computer science courses in meeting core course requirements UNLESS such a course is given graduation credit in either the mathematics or natural/physical science areas and appears on the high school's core course list as a math or science course.
